Preparing for AWS Hosting
In this lesson, we’ll ensure you have everything required before setting up your AWS hosting.
With your ducks in a row, you’ll be organized and ready for the remaining lessons in this course. This preparation will minimize setup time and ensure your hosting works correctly the first time
I’ve placed several links and downloads beneath this video to expedite your setup.
First, there are two files:
- index.html and error.html
- Save both of these files to your desktop.
Next, there is a Google Doc titled S3 Hosting Records. For Microsoft users, we’ve also provided this as a Word Doc.
- Let’s start by creating a copy of the Google Doc:
- Click the link to copy it.
- Once copied, update the document’s title to include the domain name you plan to use for hosting your cards.
- In the first paragraph of the document, enter your domain name again—without any prefixes or "www."
- These are the only updates to the document for this lesson. We’ll address the other highlighted values in future lessons.
Now, let’s review the index.html and error.html files.
- These files are identical except for their names.
- Each contains white-label animations and simple redirects that send traffic to your chosen URL in 8 seconds (8000 milliseconds).
- You are free to customize these files.
To make edits, follow these steps:
- Open a Notepad editor (or your preferred text editor).
- Drag the file into the editor.
- Now, let’s walk through the sections you can modify:
- Background Color: Replace the hex color code here to customize the background.
- Lottie Animation: This section contains a Lottie animation.
- You can find free animations at LottieFiles.com or hire someone on Fiverr to create a custom animation for your brand.
- Redirect URL: Replace the URL in quotes with your preferred secure URL (e.g., https://example.com).
- After making these changes, save the file with the same name to overwrite the existing file on your desktop.
- Repeat this process for the error.html file.
That’s it for this lesson! You’re now ready to request your SSL certificate. Please proceed to the next lesson.
